PSALM 91

PSALM 91

Last week in prayer I felt impressed to pray Psalm 91 every day over my family, ministry, friends, and myself.  I know that I am not the only one going through some very difficult  circumstances, and some that have included struggles for life.

A few days ago I took a walk and found a large white feather on the ground and the Lord reminded me of Psalm 91.  We are protected and we have help from heaven when needed.  We also have authority to trample the lion and the cobra.  Sometimes we do not recognize that the power of hell is attacking us in the area of our prayers and our faith! Our enemy wants us to think God does not hear our prayers and that our prayers do not matter.

After being in a prayer battle for many days it is common to get frustrated, weary, and exhausted, especially when we do not see a change in our circumstance. The enemy is not kind or caring. He takes advantage of our weariness and THAT IS WHEN he attacks us.  We must fight and stand and resist the enemy and he will flee.  Our prayers are important and powerful and we must NOT GIVE UP, WE CANNOT GIVE UP.  We must be like the woman in the parable in Luke 18 that went knocking on the door of the judge. This parable illustrates how we must pray and not give up.  It is difficult to continue pounding on the door of heaven and not see an answer after our “continual coming” in prayer. We feel dejected, discouraged, and we feel like our prayers are not being heard.

Sometimes the battle seems so difficult and the break through seems impossible. In my recent battle,  I prayed and prayed and asked God what I needed to do.  I felt greatly impressed to pray for a strategy.  One night after the prayer, I had a dream.  In the dream I saw the parable of Luke 18 play out like a movie.  I could see in the dream the woman pounding on the door of the unjust judge and screaming, “Give me relief from my adversary.”  I understood that the Lord was leading me to continue to knock and to not give up. I found myself shouting in prayer, “Give me relief from the adversary”.  I have taught many times about how we need to LOOK UP and watch for the Hand of God in our situations and not to look down in despair.  We can look up in great expectation of seeing God’s Hand move in our situation.  Maybe today is the day He will answer, maybe tomorrow, but HE WILL ANSWER when we persevere in prayer.

STRATEGY - Webster's Dictionary definition

  • of a careful plan or method for achieving a particular goal usually over a long period of time.

  • the science and art of military command exercised to meet the enemy in combat under advantageous conditions

Synonyms for strategy:  game plan, master plan, blueprint, design, road map

We need to ask God for a game plan and HOW we are to fight the battles we are in. Each battle in the Old Testament was different. The singers were on the front lines sometimes but not in every battle.  Sometimes the Lord said to wait, sometimes He said to advance, sometimes He said to repent or fast.  What is the STRATEGY that the Lord is telling you for your battle?  As we seek Him we need to be attentive to “hear” what He is saying.  I like the strategy of knocking because it is found as a plan in the New Testament (the acronym ASK: is Ask, Seek, Knock).

Luke 18:7,8-  And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily.  Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?

I pray the Lord give you a token of His nearness in the battle you are fighting.  The Lord will send help from heaven and He promises to be with us in trouble.  In the Book of Daniel (Daniel 10:12) Daniel’s prayer went up to heaven and was heard. But the enemy of God withstood the angel that was bringing the answered prayer to Daniel. There was a tremendous war in the heavenly realm and a delay occurred.

KNOCK AND KEEP ON KNOCKING, pound on the doors of heaven and don’t give up.  Keep asking until you get the answer.  He promises to help us and in the process our faith will get stronger.

The feather I found on my walk looked like a Bald Eagle tail feather.  The Lord wanted to remind me that we are protected (covered by His feathers).  I was also reminded of the scripture in Isaiah 40:31 But those that wait on the Lord will renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles; They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint

Safety of Abiding in the Presence of God - PSALM 91 NKJV

1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High

Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress;

My God, in Him I will trust.”

3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler[fn]

And from the perilous pestilence.

4 He shall cover you with His feathers,

And under His wings you shall take refuge;

His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,

Nor of the arrow that flies by day,

Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,

Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,

And ten thousand at your right hand;

But it shall not come near you.

8 Only with your eyes shall you look,

And see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge,

Even the Most High, your dwelling place,

10 No evil shall befall you,

Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

11 For He shall give His angels charge over you,

To keep you in all your ways.

12 In their hands they shall bear you up,

Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,

The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;

I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;

I will be with him in trouble;

I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life I will satisfy him,

And show him My salvation.”

PSALM 27:13,14   I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!
